New solar power system
In 2022 we purchased a new solar panel system for Matandani. This means the school has power throughout the day for school activities.

First Aid supplies
The first aid cabinet was restocked this year! Thank you to the nurses who donated the gloves, bandages etc for the first aid cabinet. We also spoke to two local doctors and checked if there were any further supplies they would recommend for a local school. Any additional items were purchased such as gels for sports injuries.

Donation of all resources last year
This year we had fantastic donations. A special thank you to the staff and students of Holy Family Community School Rathcoole Dublin and Sligo Supply Centre. Items donated included markers and pens, which are essential for creating teaching resources and for learners to take notes. All learners sitting their state exams were also given a pen for these important exams. We had enough not only for the Matandani students but also for all students in the local area who weee sitting their state exams. Matandani was used as the base school for the exams in the local area. 80 Maths sets were also brought to the school along with 3 extra large ones for teachers to use on the board for learners to learn how to use them for their exams.
Further donations included sports equipment such as footballs, volleyballs, netballs, bibs, frisbees and cones. Thank you to O’Neills for sponsoring two ball bags also. These will be a great asset to the school community and we got to see them being used at sports day before we left!

Buying of school books
This year we raised enough funds to purchase school books. Teachers had meetings in their class groups to discuss which books and subjects would be best suited to the learners. €1,500 was spent on books for the school to enable greater teaching and learning at Matandani.

Sewing:
The school sewing machine was repaired. This allows the local mothers group to have access to a machine. They gather monthly to see sanitary wear for the girls.

Uniforms:
Material was purchased for school uniforms. Forty students were chosen by the school management, local mothers group and teachers. Uniforms were tailor made for these students who could not afford them. This is an important aspect which created a sense of belonging to the school community for learners.
